Restless is a menu bar app that keeps your Mac awake with the lid closed, so builds, downloads, SSH sessions and AI agents keep running.
Download for MacFive switches
-
Stay awake with the lid open.
Holds an IOKit power assertion, the one
caffeinateuses. No password. -
Stay awake with the lid shut.
Runs
pmset -a disablesleep 1through the helper, so shutting the lid stops nothing. -
Sleep the screen when it shuts.
The screen goes dark at lid close. Off, it keeps drawing at zero brightness, so a computer-use agent can still see it.
-
Lock the Mac when it shuts.
Staying awake skips the usual lock-on-sleep, so Restless locks it. With an external display plugged in, this and Sleep Display step aside.
-
Let go at 20% battery.
On battery at 20% or less, Restless releases everything and the Mac sleeps normally.
Approve it once
Keeping a Mac awake with the lid shut needs root. The first time you turn on Lid Closed → Keep Awake,
Restless offers to set up a small helper whose only job is pmset disablesleep. Approve
“Restless” once in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions, and it never
asks for a password again.
Rather not install anything? Choose Just This Time for a single password prompt instead. You can remove the helper whenever you like.
Close the lid tonight.
Download Restless-1.1.0.zip, unzip it and move Restless to Applications. It opens with every switch off, so nothing changes until you flip one.
Coming from Amped? Restless copies your settings the first time it runs. Moving from Amped
